The Cottage adds a dog dining room

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL – Paul Leech, owner of The Cottage in downtown Crystal Lake, said local dog owners have requested an outdoor space where they can dine and drink while their puppies bask nearby.

And so after the restaurant’s interior space reopened, and with the back patio regularly re-filled, Leech said a dog-friendly garden had been added to a fenced grassy area at the front of the business. The area is approved by the city as an area for additional outdoor dining amid COVID restrictions until the end of summer.

“We decided to add the dog friendly garden because people kept asking for it,” Leech said.

The local restaurant, at 6 E. Crystal Lake Road, has tables with umbrellas set up in the area as well as water bowls and bags available for dog owners to pick up their puppy’s droppings. He said at the moment the dog-friendly garden has been fairly quiet.

“Not many people know that yet,” he said.

Leech said he hopes local dog owners enjoy the new space. Some restaurants in the area have special evenings where the puppies can join their owners on their patio while others allow people to bring their dogs to their main deck.

Leech said he didn’t know many restaurants that have designated a specific space, like the Cottage, for the puppies.

The Cottage is open from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday to Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Reservations are required for Friday and Saturday dinners, but otherwise walk-in people are welcome.
