Ruabon Cons Club submits plans for new bar and dining room

A private members club has submitted plans to create a new bar and dining room inside an old cottage.

Ruabon Cons Club currently uses the Grade II listed building on Park Street, Ruabon for storage purposes.

Proposals have now been put forward by the club owners to convert the old chalet, which was previously part of the Wynnstay estate.

They said they wanted to open it up for community use, with the plans also including a kitchen on the ground floor and staff facilities on the first floor.

The property is one of the estate’s four blocks of cottages on Park Street, believed to have been built around 1840.

In documents filed with Wrexham Council, agents acting on behalf of the owners said: ‘The proposed works will enable the existing building to continue to be used and enjoyed by the local community.

“The existing halls will retain their existing proportions and the new use will secure the future of the historic structure.

“The structure has been fully assessed and various options have been explored to minimize the impact of the proposals.

“Due to the building currently being used solely as storage, the benefit of its conversion outweighs any perceived harm, as it is used by the wider community.”

The leader:

Existing access points serving the building will remain unchanged under the proposals.

Parking will be provided via a car park next to the property and a public car park on Park Street.

Wrexham Council planners are expected to make a decision on the application at a later date.
