Pub North Brunswick wants to add a permanent outdoor dining area
NORTH BRUNSWICK – A Route 1 landmark for over 40 years wants to expand and keep up with the times.
The North Brunswick Pub is seeking township approval to build an approximately 1,200 square foot outdoor dining area at the existing bar and restaurant, according to its attorney Jeffrey Chang.
Additionally, the pub is looking to change the layout of the car park and provide additional parking spaces for the disabled.
“Nothing is happening inside the building,” Chang said.
The plan for the outdoor dining area is the result of the pandemic and changing market demands, according to the pub’s application before the township’s zoning adjustment board.
Outdoor dining has been permitted during the pandemic and this plan would make it permanent.
“They’ve been here for decades and love this place,” Chang said. “They want to reinvest in the business and continue to serve customers successfully.”

According to its website, the 4,896 square foot North Brunswick pub was established in 1979, when Bruce Barasky purchased the property.
The property is located in Industrial (I-1) district zoning of the township. Because pub of non-conforming, pre-existing use, zoning board approval is required.
When the pub was demolished for Route 1 expansion, Barasky obtained board approval in 1994 for reconstruction.
A virtual hearing on the application is scheduled for 7 p.m. on February 15.
A copy of the maps and documents are on file at the board office at 710 Hermann Road and are available for public inspection during regular business hours or can be obtained by contacting Kristen Olcsvay, secretary of the Zoning Board of Adjustment, at 732- 247-0922, ext. 440, or email [email protected]
