One dead and two injured after car smashes into NYC outdoor dining area

A man on a motorcycle was killed and two others were injured when a car lost control and crashed into an outdoor dining area in New York City, authorities said Friday.

The vehicle drove into restaurants on the corner of 35th Street and Ditmars Boulevard in Queens around 7:45 p.m. ET on Thursday, police said. Investigators determined that a 60-year-old woman was driving the car before it lost control. The woman fatally hit a man on a motorbike before colliding with two cars and the wooden exterior structure of the Rosatoro restaurant.

Authorities identified the victim as Xing Lin, 37, of Queens, who was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital. Another woman, 32, was also punched in the street and taken to NYC Health & Hospitals/Elmhurst with injuries to both legs, police said. She is stable.

Debris from the impact injured another 32-year-old woman who was inside the restaurant, police said. It was not known what his condition was or the severity of his injuries.

No other injuries were reported.

The names of the driver and those injured were not immediately released by authorities.

Rosatoro Restaurant did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday.

Surveillance video showed the wild moment the car slammed into the outdoor dining area, which sent debris everywhere.

The cause of the loss of control of the vehicle was unclear, but law enforcement sources told NBC New York that the driver may have suffered a medical emergency.

The woman behind the wheel remained at the scene, authorities said, but it was unclear whether she would face charges. No arrests were made Friday morning.
