New Inn in East Bierley wants to create an outdoor dining area

A GAZEBO covered outdoor dining area could be the latest addition to a village pub if new plans are approved.

The New Inn in East Bierley hopes to add a new freestanding timber frame gazebo with a shingle roof to its beer garden at the back of the pub.

This would create an all-weather seating area for alfresco dining and drinking.

Plans show tables and seating for 18 people under the proposed gazebo with tables for six more diners on a new paved area adjacent to the wooden structure.

In a design and access statement accompanying the plans which have been submitted to Kirklees Council, it is stated that the New Inn is ‘an integral part of the community’.

“The New Inn is a medium sized property currently serving the local community.”

“Our client aims to attract more customers to the pub by providing an attractive establishment and facilities for all. The aim is to improve the catering facilities by adding the new gazebo to the rear of the premises, thus creating more covers.

“The aim is to create a friendly environment for the local community and guests, whilst remaining sympathetic to the conservation area in which the pub is located.”

He adds that Star Pubs and Bars wants to ‘provide improved facilities throughout and ensure the pub is more suitable for safe socializing and dining for all’.

“The app’s proposals have been designed to provide an altogether safer and more enjoyable experience for everyone visiting the pub, especially locals who will have a better facility to enjoy from a short distance.”

No changes are planned for the existing car park, which has 28 spaces.

A Star Pubs & Bars spokesperson said: “The New Inn, East Bierley is set in a beautiful village setting with enviable views of the local golf course. We believe it has real potential to become a fantastic community pub serving home-cooked food alongside an excellent offer of real ales, as well as an ideal venue for private functions such as birthdays, wakes and christenings .

“Subject to recruiting a new operator, we want to invest in it and completely redevelop it, create a new covered area at the back of the pub and build a brand new kitchen so that the New Inn can serve quality cuisine.

“Anyone interested can find more information at or call our recruitment team on 08085 949596.”

The New Inn is not listed but is within the East Bierley Conservation Area.

A decision is expected on the final plans in December.
