NAVI MUMBAI: The Vashi neighborhood office of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) sent an official statement to a popular restaurant in Sector 17 – Navratna – to ensure there is no violation of the marginal space for illegally expanding the dining room.
Neighborhood officer Mahesh Hanshetty told TOI: “We recently received a few complaints from activists that the popular restaurant was not following the valid plan for the dining room, especially on weekends and days. holidays. Therefore, we wrote to the Navratna restaurant to remain available to the original plan and not to install more tables in the marginal spaces. ”
RTI activist Anarjit Chauhan commented: “Some citizens had previously informed me that besides popular restaurants, several other small restaurants also violate the rules of marginal space. Therefore, I had asked the NMMC to start taking action against all these restaurants that break the rules. in order to get more business. ”
Another activist Hemant Mhatre, who had filed a petition before the Bombay High Court in 2015 against the misuse of space and the original layout of the city’s restaurants and hotels, commented: “In my petition before the High Court, it is mentioned how many hotels and restaurants violate marginal spaces and other rules, for which the NMMC must take action. Therefore, civic body should regularly take action, while not all restaurants should engulf parking lots / marginal spaces etc. otherwise it will be contempt of court. ”
