The new owners of the Morrison’s Restaurant property in Beach Haven hope to add a market with dining facilities as well as new homes, and recently applied for a Coastal Area Facility Review Act permit with the Division of Land Resource from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. Protection.

The development proposed by Coastal Holdings consists of four duplexes along Pennsylvania Avenue and the interior renovation of the Ship Store to create a market in addition to a new outdoor seating area. The Ship Store will be moved and hosted in the marketplace. The application also includes plans for a storm water collection and disposal system, landscaping and lighting and related improvements.

“The Market is going to be a fast food place for breakfast, lunch and dinner,” said Jeff Schneider, who along with Angela Marcus owns Coastal Holdings. “We are looking at various plans, but the first step will be to apply for the CAFRA permit.”

A 30-day public comment period began on August 17. A complete copy of the CAFRA permit application, including full-size plans, is available at the borough clerk’s office.

Coastal Holdings entered into a purchase agreement to purchase the property in April 2021, and the transaction was formalized last fall. A staple since the 1940s, Morrison’s Restaurant was destroyed by fire in 2005 and has never been rebuilt. Marina activity remained.

Morrison’s was also the proposed site of a 102-bedroom hotel in recent years, but this project was abandoned.

“Working with Morrison’s owners has been great,” Schneider said. “They really want to see something good for the property, and we’re excited to work with them to make that happen. We’re looking to make it an attractive destination. —EE
