Approved rooftop dining area for Stockton Heath restaurant
PLANNING chefs have given the green light for a rooftop dining area above two existing restaurants on busy London Street in Stockton Heath.
Objections were received from two residents concerned about increased noise, nighttime disturbances, and traffic and parking issues.
But the project above the Expedition restaurant and adjoining property has been approved.
Planning officers did not believe the development would cause significant damage to the Stockton Heath Conservation Area or listed buildings nearby, or to the convenience of nearby residents.
On the contrary, they believed that it would increase the vitality of the commercial area.
Candidates Livingwood Ventures Ltd say an increase of seven full-time and seven part-time employees is expected.
The rooftop terrace will be accessed via the existing Expedition restaurant.
It will have a retractable pergola roof.
In their application, the applicants refer to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the hospitality industry with the loss of covers to allow social distancing.
This directly affects the viability of the business with implications for the maintenance of jobs and the vitality of city centers.
