An outdoor dining venue in Killarney is set to open in October
Kerry County Council has confirmed that an outdoor dining venue in Killarney will open next month.
Construction of Kenmare Place’s weatherproof outdoor dining area began in May.
At the recent Killarney Borough meeting, council confirmed the area will open on October 10.
Kerry County Council applied for €1million in funding under the Outdoor Dining Enhancement Scheme in April 2021.
The outdoor restoration project has received over €604,000 from Fáilte Ireland, with work starting over the summer.
The area of Kenmare Place is 620 square meters, of which 210 square meters will be covered with retractable roof pergolas.
There will be over 130 seats, with a perimeter wall with a glass screen, plants and a water feature overlooking the road.
Half of the seats will be for public use, while neighboring businesses will use the rest.
Businesses wishing to operate in the outdoor dining area will need to apply to the council for renewable licenses.
The funding allocated by Fáilte Ireland covers the outdoor dining area only.
Kerry County Council has confirmed that a request for additional funding, for footpath improvements, has been made to the National Transport Authority.
A bus parking area was provided – immediately after the crosswalk on East Avenue Road and two additional parking areas were added.
The outdoor dining area will operate for a trial period from October 10 until Christmas – and will be reviewed by Kerry County Council in the New Year.
